Outcome

  • After this workshop you will have the skills to make further examples of the "fishbone" structure, with your own contents and in your own time.
  • You'll also have a clearer understanding about what artists' books are.

You will need:

  • 1 x A4 sheet of thicker paper, e.g. "mi-teintes" cream or white pastel paper 160gsm. Cartridge paper 120-160gsm is fine too. Better quality printer paper of 110+gsm will do. 80gsm copy paper is too flimsy.
  • Roll of 12mm wide double-sided tape or glue stick (e.g Pritt) or PVA
  • Craft knife or scissors
  • Metal ruler
  • Sharp pencil
  • Surface to work on, e.g cutting mat (or thick waste cardboard, even a wodge of old newspaper will do – anything to prevent you putting indentations or cuts on your posh dining table)
  • Bone folder (not essential)
  • Scrap paper for gluing on

If you've been sent the jpg file "FishboneDrawings.jpg", print it on to your A4 paper in advance please. (If you can't, blank paper will do – you'll make a maquette with no content.) Best to set your printer to higher quality output – don't worry, you won't use much ink on this image.

Now wait for the workshop.
