Inspired by the Chinese festival, celebrating a traditional love story between a weaver girl, Zhinü, and a cowherd, Niulang, both of whom can only meet once each year, on this day. Both characters are symbolic of constellations. This year the festival falls on the 22nd August. I felt, given the use of caffeine to stay awake, the use of traditional calligraphy pen, and the difficulty of creating the bridge in drawing over oil, the concept was informed by the creative practice as much as anything else.
