“The Gatekeeper” captures the ubiquitous nosiness of cats
the world over. Peeping out between two wooden rails the
plaintive face of a tabby appears... watching, guarding his
territory, and definitely wondering what you’re up to! I chose to
paint this postcard in oils to convey the rich and glossy
colours of the woodwork, eyes and fur, which are all
beautifully tactile in their perceived texture. His soulful green
eyes have a depth to them that draws you in and holds your
gaze, as if challenging you to a staring contest - beware,
because he will win!The piece is mounted onto a hand gilded wooden panel with
a complementing rose-gold coloured metal leaf which
catches the light and makes it glow. It is hand framed in a
black wooden frame with a gentle graphite lustre finish.
