Buna Dabo Naw by Sarah E Hurst
ink and coffee on paper
38 x 28 cm
The piece is depicting a woman and her three children walking across the African landscape with a golden sun shining down on them. I used the coffee in a similar way to watercolour, building layers on top of each other. Initially I spilled the coffee onto the paper and tipped it to create different sections and shapes. Using varied consistency of coffee helped with creating more defined lines, patterns, texture and detail.
